The Tri-Swim Open Water Camp is the ultimate training ground for aspiring triathletes looking to transition from the pool to the ocean. Swimming in the sea can be intimidating, but this camp is specifically designed to build confidence, technique, and mental grit.
Master essential open water drills and skills over 2 days, needed to navigate in dynamic coastal waters. Participants will focus on:
Sighting with Precision: Learn how to look up efficiently without disrupting your swimming rhythm or dropping your hips, ensuring you swim straight and save energy.
Seamless Entry and Exit: High-surf entries and exits can make or break a race timeline. Athletes practice dolphin-diving through waves and navigating the shoreline safely and quickly.
Deep Water Comfort: Overcome the psychological hurdle of deep water by practicing with trained coaches, in a group setting, manage treading, drownproofing and pacing far from the shore.
Swimming at Sunset: Sunset swims present a unique challenge - slightly choppy water and decreased visibility. Learn how to navigate swells and waves with ease, preparing you well for race day
With Goa being home to Ironman 70.3, there is no better place to train than in the actual waters you will face on race day. The Tri-Swim Open Water Camp simulates true race conditions—dealing with swells, currents, and the excitingly chaotic environment of a mass swim start.
By the end of the camp, swimmers don't just possess better technique; they possess the calm, strategic mindset required to tackle the 1.9km swim leg with total confidence. Whether you are aiming for a personal best or simply looking to conquer your first open water race, this camp ensures you are fully race-ready!
Who is this recommended for?
This is designed for triathletes-in-training. You are eligible for this camp if you can swim non-stop in the pool for 1km.
Geared for those competing in triathlons.
Geared for those doing the swim leg of the tri-relay.
Athletes practicing for long distance races or swim expeditions must experience this session.
For swimmers travelling to Goa who want to swim up to 2km with safety & guidance, and local knowledge of seas and tides.
All swimmers must be 16 years and above to join the GOWSC Swim Camp.
When?
The camp commences at 7:00 am, on Saturday, and ends by 10:30 am on Sunday
Where?
Swim Sea Resort is our hospitality partner for the camp. (Accommodation is not included in registration cost)
What does the camp include?
3 open water sessions, and 2 theory sessions
Sessions typically last 90 mins with an instructor who knows the local waters, and rescue boards for safety and hydration.
Every session includes a safety briefing, information on tides and local beach knowledge. In addition, we teach the importance of sighting while swimming, drown proofing techniques, and the risks involved when swimming in open waters, such as marine life, boats, fishing nets, etc.
The session ends with a time trial (up to 1.9km) depending on ability.
On completion of the session, participants receive an e-certificate noting the distance & timing completed.
Breakfast on both days.
What should you bring along?
Swimsuit, briefs, shorts or knee/full length swimwear is recommended.
Being a warm tropical location, we do not recommend wetsuits as they cause excessive perspiration which can lead to dehydration.
A bottle of water + choice of electrolytes, fruits or snacks for post-swim recuperation.
Avoid eating anything at least 1 hour before the swim and alcohol for 12 hours before the session. Consumption of alcohol or other intoxicating substances before the session must be responsibly avoided as they are serious health and safety hazards in open waters.
Swimming goggles (carry extra just in-case) and bright coloured swimming caps are compulsory.
For jellyfish protection, use coconut oil, petroleum jelly on your skin
Reef Safe sunscreen is recommended.
What are our Safety Precautions?
Participants will be given a safety briefing about the location and sea condition.
There will be Drishti lifeguards on duty, on land and in water, specifically for the participants of the camp.
All the instructors are trained in basic life skills and resuscitation under Drishti.
Safety of all swimmers is our main priority. Since sea conditions can be uncertain, whether or not a swimmer is allowed to swim, is on the discretion of GOWSC.
